Is there a way of saving the output of the DEM ie. with all the erosion etc that will then open in ArcMap or ArcView - I have seen the report that you and Gez published for CLIMASILLAC and it looks as though the view is looking from the valley floor up into the tributaries.. Just wondering if you have to save this as a different file? Katharine |

Yes, When CAESAR is running, it saves the data every 100 or 500 iterations (I've forgotten which). If you look on the menu when it is running, there is a save data menu. It can save the elevations - or elevation differences and water depths etc.. These are saved as ascii files that can be imported into Arcview9, arcmap arcinfo etc.. Using the ascii to raster option in the toolbox (import data) or using asiiraster command I believe. Hope this helps, Tom |

I tried to do the ascii-->grid and know which bit it is in Arcmap/toolbox but the grain, elev etc saves as a .txt file not a .dat file. ..it still saves as a .txt and won't convert to a grid |

In arc 9 it only accepts .txt not .dat - I think, There is no difference in the files. If you can change the names to elev.txt to elev.dat it will still work fine. You may have to do this manually using the command prompt Tom |

Time is reset to zero, but it will re-start with the same catchment morphology (the DEM) as when the model stopped. Its important to also load the grainsize data files saved at the end of a run too (called grain.txt). If you want to restart from the same time, you have to enter a start time in a box under the 'numerical' tab (I think!) Tom > > The ascii --> grid is still a problem which i am working on! > However another question for you.. (sorry!) ...when caesar saves > periodically and you hit" quit and save" ..you say in the instructions > to open the data eg. swale.xml config file and type elev.dat/elev.txt > in the DEM box...this should then start runing from where you left off > ?... do I have that right? Only when I have put this in it starts > running from zero instead of 380 days (the time i had saved it at...) > Am i saving it wrong or re-loading it wrong? |

Referring to Katharines earlier problem with outputting data files to inport into arc map - there was a problem with it not saving the correct header file information. This has now been resolved in Version 5.0 onwards, Tom |
