Hi Tom,

I wonder how to calculate the late erosion rate (wich value can be recommended)? (version 6.0)

Another problem is some overflowing and exagerated erosion next to the discharge entry cells. Do I have to add this entry area in the bedrock data file (reach mode)like a non erodable zone? Is it only a problem because I didn't make a "wall" at the LH edge of my DEM (I've realised a bit late)?

Thanks for your help
Best regards

Raphaël

Hi Raphael,
The value for the lateral erosion rate is hard to determine - it has also changed in the latest versions of CAESAR (sorry).. The best way to determine it is through calibration - for example take some existing measurements of lateral erosion rates (e.g. from old maps/aerial photographs) and run caesar with different erosion rates and see which fits best?
But for now I would not spend too much time on this as I have been working on this part quite a bit and the rate will change (as the rules governing lateral erosion have changed in the model).

For your secodn question. Yes - this can be a problem where the model erodes too much at the inlet. Again - I think I've fixed this in the latest version. But you are correct, one fix is to create a bedrock DEM to prevent it incising too much. This shuold not take too long - and adding the 'wall' at the LH edge is also a good idea!

Tom
